Which Eye Conditions Can Our Ophthalmologist Treat?

If you are suffering from an eye condition or are simply experiencing symptoms, it’s important to visit Southwest Retina Eye Center in Odessa, TX. We can examine your eyes and provide the correct treatment. With early detection, we can also help to slow down the progression of any conditions. Before visiting us, read about which eye conditions we treat below:

Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration is an age-related retinal condition that primarily affects central vision but rarely leads to total vision loss. There is no cure for this condition, however, therapy can help with management. These therapies include nutritional supplements, medications, photodynamic therapy, and laser photocoagulation.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy can damage the blood vessels in the eye and prevents new normal ones from forming due to diabetes. Therapies for this condition include anti-VEGF medication like Avastin and Lucentis and eye surgeries such as vitrectomy and laser surgery.

Retinal Detachment

Retinal detachment occurs when the retina tears and pulls away from the surrounding tissue. Therapies that can help with this problem include scleral buckling, vitrectomy, pneumatic retinopexy, photocoagulation, and cryopexy.

Glaucoma Treatment

Glaucoma occurs when the optic nerve is damaged, which leads to gradual vision loss. The damage to the optic nerve can't be reversed but can be managed with therapies. These include eye drops like beta blockers and prostaglandins, oral medications like carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, and surgeries like photocoagulation and filtering.

Cataracts

Our ophthalmologist will likely recommend eyeglasses or contact lenses if your cataracts are mild. When cataracts start interfering with daily activities, surgery can help to help you see more clearly. The procedure is also fairly quick and your vision can improve in just a few days.

Eye Trauma

Depending on the severity of the eye trauma, our ophthalmologist can recommend remedies such as cold compresses, eye flushing, eye drops, eye patch, and oral medication. Surgeries are only performed for extreme eye trauma.

Vision Loss

The eye doctor will examine your eyes to establish the cause of your vision loss. They will treat your vision loss based on the therapies available for your diagnosis, whether it's glaucoma, macular degradation, and so on.

Floaters

Floaters are spots in your vision that can appear as black or grey specks or cobwebs. Floaters are treaded with surgery in order to remove the vitreous and lasers are utilized to break up the floaters.
